Join us as Dr. John C. Winters MD, MPH, discusses occurrence/treatment of HIV/STIs in a correctional setting.
About Dr. Winters:
Between 2015 and mid-2018, Dr. Winters worked at the NYC Dept of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH); Bureau of STD Prevention and Control as HIV Physician-in-Charge. Dr. Winters worked to develop and roll out several NYC-based HIV prevention and treatment initiatives aimed at reducing the number of new HIV infections in NYC by 2020. Additionally, Dr. Winters was responsible for overseeing clinical care/operations as well as implementing several CDC-funded STD initiates within the Central Harlem Sexual Health Clinic.
Currently, Dr. Winters is working with Health and Hospital Corporation (HHC) as Assistant Chief of Medicine and Infectious Diseases Physician in the Division of Correctional Health Services. He oversees several initiatives that look at cross facility care including the GCCS (Geriatric and Complex Care Service), The Medspan (the HIV and Hepatitis treatment and referrals) programs. More recently, he was challenged with running the COVID-19 medical facility for persons who tested positive while incarcerated in the NYC Jail system.
Dr. Winters is also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at The Mount Sinai Hospital where he has a weekly High Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) clinic (2016 - current)
