Thomas Kalista, PharmD, will give a didactic presentation on the updates in asthma and COPD pharmacotherapy. Dr. Kalista teaches primarily in the Pharmacists’ Patient Care Process (PPCP) Laboratory, Comprehensive Pharmacy Practice & Patient Care, and Clinical & Therapeutic Sciences (CTS) courses within the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum. His background includes time in community and ambulatory care pharmacy practice, with focus on diabetes, COPD, asthma, cigarette smoking cessation, and heart failure pharmacotherapy management.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the most recent updates to clinical practice guidelines for asthma and COPD
2. Identify newly-available inhaler products and recognize their most appropriate use(s) in therapy
3. Review lifestyle and/or preventative interventions most recommended for patients with asthma and/or COPD
4. Construct an appropriate pharmacotherapy recommendation for a patient with asthma and/or COPD
5. Discuss management of asthma and COPD in special populations including people living with HIV
