This series consists of four 3-hour sessions tailored to the roles of CHW and RC. Workshops are geared towards at-risk and emerging populations and include Safer Drug Use, Harm Reduction for the LGBTQIA+ Community, Harm Reduction for New Arrivals, and Reducing Harm in Commercial Sexual Exploitation. In addition to these virtual sessions, students who complete the training will schedule a time to go to AIDS Project Worcester to participate in Overdose Response/Narcan training.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe evidence-based strategies for safer substance use to reduce risk of HIV, hepatitis C, and overdose.
- Apply the “risk, set, setting” framework in a harm reduction-based interaction.
- Discuss culturally responsive harm reduction strategies tailored to immigrant and refugee communities.
- Identify harm reduction strategies for the top three risks of LGBTQIA+ populations: 1) substance use; 2) STIs; 3) health outcomes (e.g., cancer)
- Articulate that violence prevention, overdose prevention, and infectious disease prevention are the goals of a harm reduction approach supporting people in commercial sexual exploitation.
- Participate in naloxone responder training/receive naloxone at AIDS Project Worcester
