Philip A. Chan, MD, MS, will give a didactic presentation on clinical updates in HIV/STI Prevention. Dr. Chan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at Brown University. He has a secondary appointment in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the Brown University School of Public Health. Dr. Chan is the Medical Director of the only publicly funded sexually transmitted diseases (STD) clinic in Rhode Island, as well as Rhode Island’s only dedicated Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Program.
Matthew Perry, MD, ScM, is a physician at Providence Community Health Centers and an active member of the community. Dr. Perry has been involved in local activist organizations such as Showing Up for Racial Justice and the Alliance to Mobilize Our Resistance Network. Dr. Perry's primary goals are to continue learning to practice at the intersections of healing, community, and justice while building trusting, responsive relationships with patients from the Pawtucket and RI community. Dr. Perry has also worked as a Health Outreach Worker for a young-adult HIV clinic called Project STAY.
Learning objectives:
- Review current epidemiology of HIV/STIs in Rhode Island.
- Discuss recent HIV/STI prevention updates.
- Discuss doxycycline as post-exposure prophylaxis for bacterial STI prevention.
